Gene is celebrating 40 years as a certified professional dog trainer!
He graduated March 25, 1985 from the National Canine Learning Center in Ohio. Shortly after, he moved to North Carolina to start his career helping families to have better dogs.
In celebration of this anniversary, New Hope Dog Training Center is rolling our prices back to 1985 levels. The first ten dogs to enroll by March 30 will get $1,000 off their training program! You won't see a price like that here for the next decade!
Find all the details on our training page, and we look forward to working with you and your dog!
Gene Lonsway has been a Certified Professional Obedience Trainer since 1985. He has trained thousands of dogs in Raleigh, Durham, Cary and Chapel Hill. He was the official dog trainer for the Durham Bulls baseball team for 15 years.
Gene's first job was cleaning kennels at the Humane Society farm in Hancock County, Ohio. That was 51 years ago. Since then, he has worked at dog kennels and training facilities in Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and North Carolina.
In 1985 Gene graduated from the prestigious National Canine Dog Training School in Columbus, Ohio.
For the last 40 years he has lived and worked as a dog trainer in the Raleigh Durham area of North Carolina.
Gene was the official dog trainer for the Durham Bulls for 15 years. All of the Bulls canine mascots since 2002 have been owned and trained by Gene.
In addition to his work training dogs, he spent six years caring for dogs with hemophilia, a decade breeding and training German Shepherd Dogs, and two years working as a dog groomer.
On a more creative side, he has obtained two patents for dog toys and authored a children's book about one of the Durham Bulls Mascots, Lucky The Wonderdog.
He also spent two years producing and hosting a public access television show about dog training. In 2013 he hosted a call-in radio show on Talk Radio 850 in Raleigh.
In 2011 Lonsway opened his state of the art dog training center. The campus consists of 5 manicured acres with tons of room to work with dogs. The actual building is over 3,000 square feet and features a beautiful and spacious indoor training room along with a very nice boarding area for his canine students.
Lonsway and his wife Jackie live on the property with their dogs: a Border Collie named Ace, a Mastiff named Toby and a little Bichon Frise named Lexi.
